The following is an oldy but then again, ebcak.com is ageless so you must read it and you must like it.
Back in 2005, the 3M corporation, yes the same company that brings you Scotch Tape among other things, decided to pull a publicity stunt where it stacked money in between heavy-duty glass panels. They put these panels out at a bus stop to show how confident they were in their product, certain that the money was completely safe within the glass.
It turns out that there were only about $500 real dollars in the glass, the rest being fake. If that weren’t embarrassing enough, they had a security guard stationed at the panel to make sure that anyone who did break the glass didn’t run away with the money. So much for confidence in your product.
That said, the glass got a lot of media exposure and most likely made 3M a lot of business. So the Ebcak Of The Week actually goes out to the general public, even if it is 3 years too late.
Bet they didn’t pull that off in my town, New York City!
There would have been one guy distracting the guard, another creating a disturbance to distract the crowd, and another cutting through that glass and making off with all the money!
We know how to get the bucks any way we can here!
