That sounds real nice, but does it require me to fill out my login info in a third party’s tool?

That’s a potential safety hazard.

Hey Jay,

The great news is that it doesn’t require you to fill out your password at all. It will just log you out once the upgrade is near the end, at which point all you need to do is log back in to your site. Basically, everything is done from within your site. If for some reason there are read/write permission requirements, then ftp logins will be required so that the program can log in and alter those (I wasn’t asked for that information during my upgrade). That said, I’m not a computer programmer so I can not vouch for the program 100%. What I do know is that the plugin is being offered through Wordpress site, suggesting that it does meet basic security requirements. Like anything else, use at your own risk.

In theory I like the idea a whole lot. In practice?? From a hindsight point of view we would not have been in a hurry to upgrade to WP 2.6 had we realized all the bugs. I think sometimes it’s best to let the others duke it out and then get the upgrade when it passes numerous user tests :)

I will be bookmarking though, it’s a sound idea.

Hey Diane,

yes, I feel the same way but I just couldn’t resist using the auto update to see if it works.

Thanks for the comment :-)
