While North Americans debate on the dangers of Pit Bulls, Africans are contemplating something a little more extreme. I’m talking about Hyena guard dogs. An absolutely insane perspective on life in other parts of the world.
Update: Apparently the photos taken here are of African entertainers who travel around the Nigeria “with three hyenas, two pythons and four monkeys.”
First, hyenas are neither related to dogs nor cats, although they are slightly closer to cats. They are a member of their own family – Hyaenidae. Second, these animals are hugely misunderstood. They are very intelligent and they are primarily hunters (although they will steal kills from lions, just as lions will steal from hyenas), not scavengers. The spotted hyena is the largest of all, and their societies are female dominated. Anyway, that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to these powerful and beautiful animals.
