Here are the steps:

1. Save your current document such as word or text file or image or whatever it is that you are working on.
2. Right Click on the saved document and rename. For this step you only need to change the extension. For example, if you are working with a word document, name.doc , change it to a name.jpg This will instruct windows to associate that document as an image.
3. That’s all there is to it. When someone attempts to launch what they think is an image they will see nothing
   
4. When you want to view your file, just change the extension back to name.doc
   

This trick can be used for any file type and is a quick way of keeping nosy people from seeing your work.
