It seems that everyone is talking about it, the “iPod Wedding” that is. The iPod wedding is another way in which younger, more hip kids are attempting to control the direction of their wedding by eliminating the DJ from the wedding celebration. Using, you guessed it, the iPod young couples are designing their own music mix to play during their wedding reception.
There are some up sides and down sides to an iPod wedding that couples need to evaluate before they fully embrace it. The benefit of using your iPod at your wedding is obvious, it’s much much cheaper than a DJ, and for those of you on a budget, and iPod wedding may be the only real option available to you. Another upside to an iPod wedding is that you have full control of the music, not the DJ. That means no more annoying ‘Bird Dance’ or ‘Macarena’, that is unless you really enjoy listening to them. That also means that you don’t have to worry about the DJ cutting your special wedding dance short with some lame comment.
The downside to having an iPod wedding are many, for example, you’ve got very little control over the mixing of the music, meaning that fading in and out and cross mixing your music is out of the question. Also, things can go terribly wrong, meaning if the iPod falls and breaks, you’re out of music and that’s not cool. Another reason for avoiding the iPod wedding is that you will most likely need someone, probably a friend, to monitor it for you. That may be cool for the first couple of hours, but when your friend gets tired or stinking drunk, all hell can and will break loose. Another reason to not use an iPod at your wedding is that you don’t get all the perks that you get with a DJ, like lighting, and hosting services which the DJ’s are often responsible for.
Choosing to go with an iPod wedding can be successful, but you will need to be very careful on how it is handled. Often, it’s just better to get a professional DJ to take care of the music for you so that you can concentrate on what really matters to you, your wedding.
