Computers are wonderful things, that is until they stop working and start generating confusing error messages like unknown protocol: socket for example. A protocol unknown error message can occur with a number of applications and hardware configurations, and generally the solution isn’t always straight forward. For example, if you are attempting to use a java based application to connect to a server, the protocol unknown error message may appear, telling you that the application was unable to connect. In essence, it could also be related to faulty installations client side or server side, or permissions related and so on. Whatever the case, finding solutions to the Protocol Unknown error may take a little a while to pinpoint, and therefore, it’s a good idea to check all possible issues, including registry and system related ones.
