In the world today, more than at any other time in history, our privacy has never been more in danger of vanishing. Surveillance technologies like spy cameras, concealed listening devices, online spyware, TV rating equipment, online and offline questionnaires and possibly the worst offender of tomorrow, GPS equipment.
In my opinion, none are more invasive in our daily lives than GPS, because GPS allows each and every step that we take to be monitored. When you combine that with the other technologies that I mentioned above, the result is a total loss of privacy.
Often, we are so bedazzled by new technologies and the benefits they bring that we don’t see the implications of such technologies. The average size of a GPS device, for example, has shrunken considerably over the years where today a GPS device can be very small and inconspicuous. You may be tracked at this moment without your knowledge, while some unscrupulous employer or vindictive lover or spouse tracks your every move online. They can see where you travel and how long you stay at each point in your travels, this is very scary.
Is GPS dangerous? You bet it is, do not make any mistake about it. Employers can easily step all over your rights to privacy and unless they fully disclose it, you may never know it. Your jealous spouse can easily drop a GPS Tracking device in your laptop case and track you wherever you go. Same goes for stalkers who would love nothing more than find out what your daily routine is, or some crook who wants to know how long you’ll be away from your home so they can rob you blind. GPS Surveillance, if used for the wrong reasons, can easily destroy everything we’ve worked so hard to protect, our privacy, and that is something that you cannot put a price on.
