What The Heck Is Windows 1.01?
For those of you weened on Windows 98, NT or XP, you may be surprised by the look of the Windows Operating System that started it all. I’m talking about Windows 1.01, the first publicly available Windows OS. One look at this dinosaur, with its limited multi-tasking capabilities, and you’ll be thanking your lucky stars that you don’t have to be subjected to using it.
First introduced on November 1985 as graphical shell over MS-DOS (The engine that ran Windows for many years), Windows 1.01 soon caught the imagination of geeks and the technologically challenged everywhere. In spite of its shortcomings, Windows 1.01 was a success, overtaking it’s competitors in sales. The good people over at toastytech.com have some cool screen captures of the Windows 1.01 that you may enjoy.
