The fuel used to create electricity is enormous. Just because we don’t SEE the destructive impact on the environment doesn’t mean that it isn’t there.
Using electricity is neither green nor cool, it is much less efficient than petrol. Why use polluting fossil fuels to generate electricity, then feed that electricity to cars which will then run less efficiently than if using the same amount of fossil fuels to run the car directly.
Hydro or solar power would be options, NOT electricity.

Hi Rebecca,

Thanks for your comments. Portugal gets most of it’s electricity from Hydro, Wind and Solar. Very little of it comes from coal plants, and there are no nuclear plants in Portugal. Portugal imports almost all of its fuels, meaning that much energy is used in the delivery of petrol, and therefore, petrol has a larger negative environmental footprint than does electricity.

For a country like Portugal, electrical transportation makes sense. There are many other countries that are in a similar situation, and therefore, encouraging electrical vehicles is the way forward.

Thanks for your comments,

:-)

Ok, I see your point, and it makes sense then.
